Scropton Horse Centre hosts occasional events for the East Midlands Special Olympics Equestrian Group
Special Olympics uses sport to empower children & adults with an intellectual disability to enhance their health and wellbeing. The East Midlands Equestrian group does this through horse riding activities.
Monday 30th September 2024 Special Olympics Competition Day
Results
We’re running a Special Olympics Equestrian Competition for riders at all levels.
Each rider will take part in two different ridden events; either Working Trails and Dressage or Prix Caprilli and Dressage. There will also be the chance for everyone to test their skills at Horse Care & Knowledge.
Priority will be given to riders living in the East Midlands (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire) but if we have space we will also accommodate riders from other areas.
The competition is open to:
Riders already registered as Special Olympics Athletes
Riders with an intellectual disability taking part with Special Olympics for the first time. If you enjoy the event you can apply for registration and take part in future events.

Riders need to select the level at which they want to compete:
Level A (with PrixCaprilli):

There will be an entry contribution fee of £25 per rider which covers entry to the two classes in their chosen level as well as the Horsecare and Knowledge challenge.
Riders can bring their own horse or use a horse belonging to a group they are part of. If you cannot bring a horse to the event, there will be a small number of horses that can be hired at the event. If you want to do this you will need to complete the Horse Hire Form as below.
Riders will warm up in the indoor arena and then will ride their selected tests & courses in the outdoor arena. There are spectator areas around the outdoor arena. A first aider will be on site throughout the event.
The Coffee Bar will be open throughout the day for refreshments and a place to relax before & after riding.
The site is flat and fully accessible. Disabled toilets are available.

For participants attending as part of a group, this form only needs to be completed once on behalf of the group. For those attending on an individual basis (ie not part of a group) please also complete this form.

Entries must be received by Friday 20th September.
Riders from the East Midlands (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire) will receive priority entry if they enter before Friday 13th September. Riders from other areas can apply at any time and will be allocated any places available after 13/9/24 based on a first come first served basis. All entries from any area received after 13/9/24 will be allocated any remaining places on a first come first served basis.
The entry contribution fee is £25 per rider. An invoice will be sent to you by Monday 23rd September and must be paid by 30/9/24.
Times will be allocated for each rider. These will be emailed to all contacts and posted on this webpage on Wednesday 25th September
Sport rules
The event will be run in accordance with the current Official Special Olympics Sports Rules for Equestrian and the National Governing Body (NGB) Rules. Please note that this event will also apply the new Equestrian Rules updated 2020. – Please check SOI resources page for any updated sport rules.
