Horse Appeal
Can you help us find new horses for our centre?
We're a busy riding school in South Derbyshire (DE65 5PL) providing both BHS and Riding for the Disabled lessons for local adults and children, and need more horses to be able to support all our current riders.
We're looking for horses ideally aged 8-16; versatile allrounders with kind temperaments. Our search is currently focussed on
🐴 15.1 - 16hh
🐴 14 - 14.2hh
🐴 12.2 - 13.2hh
We have a good budget for buying horses but will also consider loans.
Our horses are well cared for and much loved by staff, volunteers & participants alike; a really good home and a very worthwhile role is awaiting the right horses.

We’re looking for more horses here at Scropton Riding for the Disabled, particularly between 13.2- 15.2hh.
We’re happy to consider anything from short term loans for 6 months over the winter to longer term loans.
We have fantastic facilities and provide great care for all our horses. Work varies from sessions in walk only through to walk/trot/canter/jump and is matched to the abilities & needs of each horse.
What types of horses are we looking for?
We’re quite flexible about size; looking for horses between 13hh and 16.1hh. Ideally we’d like them to be between 8 and 16 yrs old, but we would consider a younger horse if it has been well broken and schooled.
For the variety of work we do at our centre we are looking for a horse that is:
Great on the ground and has been well handled by a variety of people.
Happy to work in a school/arena as we do not hack out.
Well schooled; able to do a basic dressage test and pop a small course of jumps
Patient and sensible.
Able to work on and off a lead rein
The following horses are unlikely to be what we are looking for:
Green horses with little schooling
Horses that nap or are unsafe to handle
Horses that come from a sole hacking home
Our horses are used for RDA sessions, but also for riding lessons for local adults & children who also use our centre and so they will have a good variety of work.
We don’t mind manageable health conditions if this does not affect the horses working life. We are happy to consider a loan or purchase, and have a good budget for buying. We will want to asses any horse ourselves prior to purchase, and to have a vetting carried out
Although we have quite a long wish list, we would be very happy to talk to any potential loaners/sellers about their particular horse and whether it would be suitable for us.
