Changing Lives

People - Horses - Development - Wellbeing

Horses are amazing animals and through them we have opportunities to make real and lasting differences to the lives of local adults and children with additional needs. Our horses and activities offer opportunities to develop a wide variety of life skills, improve well-being, build abilities and all whilst having fun.

We aim to help an enormous range of disabilities; physical, learning, sensory, multiple and profound, and are extending our reach to those with mental health problems as well.

Our activities include riding, horse care and horse agility. This range of activities allows us to work with the widest variety of disabilities and needs. Teamwork is the key to achieving our goals, and our horses, staff and volunteers are the key to our centre. Together they form our centres’ ‘community’, providing a warm welcome for our participants and their families and carers; a place where everyone is valued, encouraged and enriched.

“Scropton RDA is a place where I feel safe, unjudged, included, happy and I can spend time with my friends both human and equine. It’s my favourite place to be”

Phoebe

“When people see me ride they often comment that I can ride really well and they can’t ride at all. I like this as it makes me feel very proud that I can do something difficult that other people can’t do.”

Mark

“Riding horses makes me smile and not be scared anymore. I can do my school work because I think of the horses when I’m scared. Horse riding helps me keep calm and I can ride my bike now too because my balance is better from being a horse rider. “

Danielle

“Scropton Riding for the Disabled has changed my life, making me the person I am today. Riding has helped me develop in so many ways and now I am both a para rider and volunteer for RDA. I am so lucky to have such fantastic support from the centre.”
