Horse Clubs
Our Horse Clubs are a great way to spend time with horses, enjoy a wide range of different activities and enjoy some social time with like minded people.
Horses are amazing animals and spending time with them can make real and lasting differences to peoples lives. Horse Clubs at Scropton provide the opportunity to develop a wide variety of life skills, improve health & wellbeing, expand abilities and all whilst having fun in a social group.
Our Horse Clubs run on weekday mornings, either weekly or fortnightly, and incorporate a variety of horse related activities including horse care, horse agility, yard skills and creative sessions. All Horse Club sessions include a social element, allowing members to work together, developing teamwork and friendships
Why horses?
Horses are social animals with their own personalities. They are unbiased and don’t judge, and so people feel at ease with them. This allows unique and positive relationships to build enabling skills to develop
Horses help life skills
Club members might think they’re coming to take part in fun activities with horses, but they’ll be going home with a variety of life skills they’ve developed along the way:
Tracking participant progress has shown that:
• 74% of participants demonstrated physical improvement
• 77% developed greater confidence
• 75% experienced more enjoyment.
• 65% showed a greater willingness and ability to communicate
• 72% showed improved relationship building skills
• 78% demonstrated clear advances in horsemanship
Horses help teamwork
Working with horses is very much a team thing and this is a big part of our Horse Clubs .
Club members work alongside the coach, helpers, other members and of course the horses.
This helps develop both their own skills and ability to take part in shared activities.
Horses help mental wellbeing
Just being with horses can make you feel better. Horse Club sessions can be relaxing and calming. Confidence develops and trust grows.
Resilience, self-esteem and empathy can all be improved through activities with horses, supporting mental health needs.
Learning through horses
Our Horse Clubs incorporate a range of learning activities focussed on horses. Whether its learning how to groom a horse or how to lead one around obstacles, club members will learn more about horses, and in doing so will also be developing their own skills and understanding.
Learning with horses
As well as learning horse related skills, there’s lots of scope for activities to support literacy, numeracy, language and other topics.
The flexibility of our Horse Clubs means that we can focus activities and learning to suit the club members
Rewards for effort & achievement
Our club members have a wide variety of abilities, so we aim to tailor goals to each individuals and groups needs.
We have a variety of ways of recognising effort & achievements from ‘Scropton Stars’ for one-off recognition for an individual through to ‘Endeavour Awards’ earnt over a period of time for reaching agreed goals.
These all give club members something to take away with them so they can share their achievements with others
Each Horse Club session is 90 minutes long will involve a mix of different activities with a varied programme each week that may include:
Horse Care
Horse care encourages empathy and a caring relationship to develop. Grooming is a calming and relaxing activity that builds confidence and trust. It can be a very sensory experience and helps develop motor skills
Horse Agility
Horse Agility involves working as partners with a horse on the move. A trusting relationship is built as you learn to overcoming obstacles together. Spatial awareness and motor skills develop as you work together.
Practical Skills
There are always lots of things that need doing around the stables and yard. From sweeping and mucking out to painting and simple DIY - there’s lots of opportunities to try something different.
Creative Skills
Horses can inspire art and creativity. Designing a rosette, cooking horse treats, making posters, sculpting model horses, making fancy dress for the horses… there’s no end to the possibilities.
Social time
Spending time with other club members who all share your interest in horses provides lots of opportunities for social interaction. Coffee and cake breaks as part of the Club provide time for everyone to relax together.
Our Horse Clubs are accessible to all abilities. No previous horse experience is necessary. Protective hats and boots can be provided where activities require this.
Our Horse Clubs are open to both groups and individuals. Groups can book exclusive Horse Club sessions or can choose to mix in Horse Clubs, giving the chance to meet new people
Horse Clubs are great for existing social , support and enrichment groups looking to expand their activities and offer a new and unique opportunity to thier members
We have excellent accessible facilities at Scropton Horse Centre allowing Horse Clubs to run all year and be open to all:
Wheelchair users are welcomed and there is wheelchair access across whole site
Covered and indoor activity areas so clubs can run whatever the weather
Fully accessible toilets at two locations on the site
