Additional Special Needs Riding
Our riding activities are accessible to a wide range of disabilities; physical, learning and sensory. Whether you are looking for a therapy ride and all the learning, social and fun opportunities that go with that, or whether you are a Para-equestrian hopeful with sporting ambitions, we aim to provide a friendly welcome, the opportunities and all the help needed.
We offer sessions on both weekdays and weekends, mainly during the day but with some evening availability. Sessions are typically 30 or 45 minutes in length, and can be in groups or 1:1 depending on need. Where we can, additional assistance is provided to meet an individuals specific needs.
We welcome participants from the age of 5 upwards; there is no upper age limit!
We often recommend that participants do a mix of riding and ground-based sessions for maximum benefit. In many cases a new participant is better to start to get to know and understand the horses on the ground before they start riding. We welcome anyone interested to make an appointment to visit the centre to see what we do.
Our ASN riding lessons group riders by ability so that riders can benefit from working as a group towards similar goals and activities at an appropriate level.
Most participants new to riding will start of being led with plenty of support where needed. Those with previous riding experience will be assessed so that they can join an appropriate group. All our riders are encouraged to develop to their full potential.
As well as regular lessons, we also run occasional activities such as pony days, taster sessions, experience sessions, competitions and more.
Getting started at Scropton Horse Centre
If you’re interested in taking part in activities at our centre the first thing you’ll need to do is fill in a participant form. This will give us all the information we need about you and what you would like to do. The participant form is the same whether you are interested in activities for those with additional needs or mainstream activities.
Once you’ve submitted your form we’ll have a look at what sessions we have available that would suit you and we’ll get in touch with you to let you know what we can offer you.
