About Volunteering at Scropton

Volunteers are an essential part of the team here at Scropton Riding for the Disabled. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to continue with all the amazing things we do. Our volunteers are involved in all aspects of the centre, from working with our horses and riders to helping run the centre and everything else in between! We also run the Stable Club – a volunteering scheme for younger volunteers.

The Benefits of Volunteering at Scropton

Our volunteers really are a team here at Scropton.  There is so much to be gained from being involved as a volunteer, from learning new skills to meeting new people. Below are just a few examples and thoughts from some of our existing volunteers.

Enjoying being part of the team
Share the enjoyment of our RDA riders and drivers
Meet new friends and learn new skills

“I love volunteering at Scropton  leading our disabled riders, seeing them improve and enjoy themselves whilst learning to ride. I have great fun with my friends and love working with the horses”

– Lexi, Stable Club Volunteer

“I love every aspect; the grooming, tacking up and untacking, even sweeping the yard, it is all rewarding and a great pleasure to me.  I really enjoy the interaction with the riders, although I have no experience in this area at all.”

– Scropton Volunteer

Volunteering at Scropton

Volunteers at the centre get involved in a variety of different ways. Some help regularly whilst others support us occasionally when they can. Whatever you can offer, there’s a place for you in our team. Don’t worry if you haven’t got experience with horses , riders or drivers – we can help you learn all you need to know

Working with riders and drivers

We always need help in the riding and driving sessions. Roles may include leading horses, side-walking riders, extra helpers to organise activities or even coaching the sessions. Being part of the team in the arena is a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone!

Working on the Yard

If horses are more your thing then why not help us on the yard? With over 30 horses and ponies to care for, there’s always plenty to do.  If you’re happier to keep the horses at a distance then we have plenty of maintenance jobs too. Whether its painting, gardening, cleaning or DIY, we can find a job to suit you.

Helping in the Coffee Bar

We also run a coffee bar for everyone who is visiting or volunteering at our centre. If you’re happy in the kitchen making tea & coffee and chatting with customers, this job could be for you!

There’s plenty of other roles

We always need help with any other skills you can offer the centre including…

  • Helping with fund raising
  • Working at events, competitions and other activities
  • Helping behind the scenes with admin, media or other tasks
